October - December 2019

At the AGM in October Alison forgot to remind everyone  planning to attend our December meeting to bring a selection of food for sharing. Refreshments will be provided.

In the Community.

We were invited by the CCG in conjunction with Coventry Godiva Lions to attend two Diabetes awareness events at two Gurudwara Temples in Foleshill on 10th and 17th November and carry out Risk Assessments. In the end the NHS prevention team carried out their Risk Assessments and Hba1c blood tests. Alison, Steve, Brian and Diane spoke to over 30 people at the information stand. So a very productive and interesting couple of events. Alison and Shaleen attended the Forum Health Centre in November to help set up their Peer 2 Peer support group.

We were also invited to have a stand at the CCG `We Care’ event in Foleshill in November but this event was cancelled due to election regulations. We have also taken several phone calls for advice.

Raising Awareness

We are pencilling in a few bookings for future events, but Alison is being selective until things are back to normal. We have been invited back to HMP Stafford in January for their well being event.

A quick update

Alison is nearly off her crutches but keeping walking to a minimum. Having been in conversation with the hospital it might be the new year before normal service is resumed. Whilst this is frustrating for Alison her health must be a priority, so we continue to be selective in the events we choose to do.

Alison would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has driven her to events and those who pitched in to help out.

Diabetes UK Inspire Awards.

We were nominated for the Reaching Out and Connecting Award. This is the forth time in a row we have been nominated for an award so Well Done to Everyone for your hard work and support. Unfortunately we did not win this time but it is nice to be nominated and recognised.
