Newsletter September 2017

In the Community

In August and September we joined in with the city council activities and had a stand in Broadgate during the school holidays and at the end of September. We have given a presentation / talk to another South Asian community group in Foleshill. We have also been invited by the Coventry Lions to attend the Coventry Mela on the 15th October at Longford Park. If anyone fancies helping out please dress warmly. We are also starting to plan the meeting poster delivery to GP surgeries in the new year.

Raising Awareness

We were invited to help out with a Tesco fundraiser  as part of their walk from John O’ Groats to Lands End.  Huge Thanks goes to Roger and Winston for covering the information stand on the Saturday morning.

At the end of August we were asked to write or tweet the Health Secretary to try to encourage him to allow the new "flash technology" for glucose monitoring to be available on the NHS.

WE DID IT!!!!!

The new flash technology will be available on prescription from November but the prescribing criteria will be decided by individual local Care Commissioning Groups (CCG’s). Thank you to everyone who wrote or tweeted. Our voices can make a difference.

Assisting with Research

We were planning to host an open meeting on the 9th October for anyone to come along and hear about the Research project being run by Professor Gill from Warwick Medical School. The project is aimed at improving Type 2 care in Coventry. Unfortunately the project hit a bump when it failed to make it passed the first round of funding approval. Work is ongoing and when we know more, information on further meetings will be announced.
