2019 Bucket Collection and Shoe Event

Well !! What a Great Day, despite the rain in the afternoon.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined in either helping to set up or to shake a bucket and talk to members of the public. We spoke to over 200 people on the day and truly raised awareness of the seriousness of Diabetes. We had people from UHCW, Surrey, Staff from Head Office in London and Shaleen from Wolverhampton all joining in. We also raised £299.39. It’s a shame we did not have more people from the group helping out on such a fun day.

We have had really good feedback from the event and we have completed a report on why and how we planned and organised the event including a copy of all our Health and Safety Risk Assessments so this can give advice to other groups in their planning for future events. BBC C&W gave us a shout out on their early morning show for the Shoe Event.

In the Community.

We were invited to join in with the Keresley Festival by Anna from UHCW and although it was a hot day Brian, Diane and Alison still spoke to several people. Alison is pencilling events in for September and October with a possible `Know your Risk’ event for Warwickshire Police and another well being event at HMP Dovegate.

Shaleen from our regional office in Wolverhampton, has been asked to help set up a Peer 2 Peer support group within a GP surgery in Coventry and Alison will be helping out once we have a date.

Raising Awareness

We are currently pencilling in a few bookings for future events, but Alison is being selective until there is an update on her health.

Diabetes UK Inspire Awards.

Our Group have been nominated for the Reaching Out and Connecting Award. This is the forth time in a row we have been nominated for an award so Well Done to Everyone for your hard work and support. The award winners will be announced in October at the Volunteer Conference for the East and West Midlands in Derby.
