February Newsletter

In the Community

We have had a busy start to the year with community talks to the Earlsdon WI at the end of January, a 2nd Well-being Day in February at the new retirement village on Albany Road and a repeat visit to Warwick Medical School to talk to a group of students studying the Psycho-Social Management of Diabetes module. There are more talks being planned, including to the Community Psychiatric Nurses Recovery Team.

Campaigning

A few members of the group had a meeting with Councillors at the City Council in December. We are hoping to get the council to fund the Diabetes UK "Know Your Risk" Roadshow bus for another trip to Coventry. The result of this meeting was very positive and we look forward to working with the Council to help raise awareness in the more at-risk areas of Coventry.

Raising Awareness

The Group Committee have made contact with every GP surgery in Coventry, to highlight the group's existence and to ask them to put our meeting posters up in their waiting rooms. The response to this has generally been very positive. Please let us know if your surgery has not put the posters up. This has led to request for help in setting up a Peer to Peer support group for Type 2 patients at a local surgery. There will be a training course to help us facilitate this. If you are interested please let Alison know.

Fundraising

We have been granted our council permit for our bucket collection in Coventry on the 10th June. As always we are looking for volunteers to shake a bucket for a couple of hours, or help man the main stand. If you would like to help, please contact Alison.
