August Newsletter

In the community

We attended a Health, Safety and Well Being Day at Eden Girls School. We have had a request for a talk from the Sahil Project, following up from the “Know your Risk” roadshow on the Foleshill Road in National Diabetes Week. We have also given a talk to the Podiatrists at the Drop in Centre. In return they are booked in for one of our meetings next year.

Raising awareness

At the end of June we were invited to give a talk to HMP Dovegate in Uttoxeter. There were a mix of both prisoners and staff in attendance with the opportunity to have a 1:1 chat in the afternoon. We were also invited to participate in a national library event called "Reading Prescriptions for long term Conditions" at the Central Library. We also have stalls at 2 events in the city centre in August and September.

Campaigning

The foot care workshop attended by Alison was to work on a new Information Prescription for GPs. These resources will be tailored to each patient to improve healthcare and self management. More information can be found at: www.diabetes.org.uk/info-p-qa. Alison will have copies of the current Information Prescriptions at the August meeting.

Assisting with research

We have been invited to assist with a research project. The project is aimed at improving Type 2 care in Coventry. The funding application has to be in by the end of July with the project starting in approximately Summer 2019. There will be an introduction meeting on the 9th October to meet Professor Gill from Warwick Medical School.
